- Music CDs are shelved alphabetically by genre.
- Each genre is further alphabetized by band name or artist's/composer's last name (World Music is arranged first by country of origin, then by artist).

Magazines and Journals at the Library
- The library owns literally thousands of magazines and newspapers in print, microfiche, microfilm, and electronic formats. These magazines are located in the Reading Room, our Youth Services Department, the Grand Rapids History and Special Collections Department, and our Retrieval Desk at the Main library, as well as at each of our branches.
- Search our catalog for specific titles.
- Search our databases for full-text articles and citations from thousands more magazines and newspapers. Check MeL (the Michigan eLibrary) to find out if a magazine's full-text articles are included in a database.

- Myspace Music - A social networking site that hosts pages of virtually every band.
- Operabase - This site features information on over 500 opera houses and festivals.
- Opus 1 Classical - This site provides information on classical music concerts, festivals and opera world wide.
- Pandora - An automated music recommendation and Internet radio service created by the Music Genome Project.
- Pitchfork Media - A Chicago-based daily Internet publication devoted to music criticism and commentary, music news, and artist interviews.
- Playlist - A social music community website where you can create a playlist from an extensive database to share with other users.
- PureVolume - A website where bands and musical artists can promote and advertise themselves.
- SoundCloud - A social sound platform where anyone can create sounds and share them everywhere.
